Our founder
Meet Erik Smyth, Founder of DEW
DEW was founded by Erik Smyth, an entrepreneur with a passion for science, sustainability and finding better ways to solve everyday problems. In 2018, after discovering the remarkable potential of electrolysed water technology. Ecoanolytes was launched to explore electrolysed water technology in agriculture and food production for which it has considerable advantage over traditional products, but it quickly became clear that the technology could address a much bigger challenge much closer to home: the harmful chemicals found in everyday cleaning products.
Like many consumers, Erik was frustrated by the choice between traditional cleaning products that usually contained harsh ingredients and so-called “green” alternatives that often were not green and rarely delivered on performance. He believed there had to be a better way. DEW was created to prove that cleaning products could be highly effective, safer for people and kinder to the environment, without compromise. Built on electrolysed water technology, DEW delivers powerful cleaning and hygiene performance while removing almost all of the harsh chemicals commonly found in traditional cleaners.
Erik lived in Dundee, so it became the natural home of DEW’s journey. During the pandemic, the local community rallied behind the business, helping produce and distribute essential sanitising products when they were needed most. That spirit of innovation, resilience and community remains at the heart of the company today. Erik’s mission extends far beyond creating cleaning products. He wants to help people reduce their exposure to unnecessary chemicals, improve health and wellbeing in homes and workplaces, and lead a new generation of cleaning solutions that are safer for people, pets and the planet.
